There are many ways in which anxiety can manifest itself, on a degree that interferes with a person’s everyday life. The main disorders, detailed in the latest versions of specialized publications (such as the DSM-IV-TR and CID-10), are:
- Specific phobias
- Social anxiety disorder
- Panic disorder
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- Agoraphobia
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Of course, there are other ways, uncategorized and specific, in which anxiety can be felt. Here are a few examples:
- Evaluation anxiety
- Separation anxiety
- Post-vacation anxiety
All of these are worthy of a future closer look. The first step to controlling something is to gain an understanding of how it works.
